Federal court orders Louisiana to release prisoner held for 40 years in solitary confinement: Albert Woodfox
DemocracyNow! covered the Federal order to release Albert Woodfox, a prisoner held in solitary confinement at Angola Prison for over 40 years now after his conviction for the murder of a prison guard. Many people, including the wife of the prison guard, believe that Woodfox is innocent and that he was a scapegoat in this case. They claim he was subjected to an unfair trial and prosecuted for political reasons.
40 years of solitary confinement is just impossible to imagine.
This is the 3rd time that a Federal court has ordered Louisiana to release him. The State of Louisiana has the opportunity to appeal the order, thus it is uncertain whether this time will actually be a victory for Albert Woodfox and his supporters.
Solitary confinement is probably one of the worst things that can happen to a human.
